Jackie has a PhD in Counseling Psychology and a BS in Medicine (PA Program) from the University of Florida and a MA in Counseling and BS in Psychology from Southeast Missouri State University. He is currently Professor Emeritus in the College of Medicine鈥檚 Department of Psychiatry. Prior to this, he served as the Director of the Student Care Center鈥檚 Employee Health Service, and prior to that, as Director of Student Mental Services.

Nationally, Jackie has served as Vice President, President, and Immediate Past President of ACHA. He has also served on ACHA鈥檚 Board of Directors and Executive Committees. He chaired the 草榴社区Advocacy, Nominating, Annual Meeting Program Planning Committees; Corporate, Federal, and Foundation Grants Review Committee; Committee on Diversity; the Fellows Award Selection Committee; Mental Health Section; and the Ethnic Diversity Coalition. He also served on the Faculty and Staff Health and Wellness Coalition, Continuing Education Committee, and By-Laws Committee and as the ACHA鈥檚 board liaison for NASPA鈥檚 Region 6 Representative for Health and Wellness in Higher Education Knowledge Community.

Jackie holds a number honors, including the Edward Hitchcock Award for Outstanding Contributions in College Health, the Ruth E. Boynton Award for Distinguished Service to ACHA, 草榴社区Fellow, the Charles F. Bormann Award for Dedication and Contributions to the Field of College Health, and UF Superior Accomplishments Award.

Jackie has also established the ACHF鈥檚 Ayers/Battle/Thomas Fund to encourage and promote diversity within ACHA鈥檚 institutions of higher education by addressing ethnic minority and LGBTQ+ health issues.
